After a welcome break one has time to reflect on what should have/could have been.
I am in the unfortunate position now of helping a client's two aggrieved sons sorting through a cobweb of financials in order to finalise their Dad's interstate estate. This after the Dad ensured me, before his brain operation (Dec '10) that he has a valid will. Needless to say ..... nothing found.
A WILL, simply stated, encompass your final wishes and irrespective of who you told what and when makes live for those unfortunate souls left behind just so much simpler. Remember nothing change - in nature when there is death the vultures appear almost from nowhere. Sounds cruel but it are a life fact!
People often tell me that they have nothing or "let them fight over it" or I have told my daughter, etc. My question is why! To have a will drawn up is a very inexpensive and simple exercise and can be done at any Bank, Insurance Company, Attorney, etc. so why wait. If you have "no" assets (Group benefits at the office!?) to bequeath at least express your wishes such as cremation vs burial, organ donation - yes/no, what should happen with your children - guardianship, what should happen with your animals especially your parrot as it would most certainly outlive you, whatever ... remember we shall all be missed by someone or something .... Fact. You can even go one step further (refer attached example) and have a "Living Will" drawn up - your wishes in the event of you being kept alive by say machines only.
Those of you who do have a will - have it revisited to ensure that it has kept pace with your changed situation(s).
But PLEASE just get a WILL!
