Holiday season has once again arrived and most of us are heading away from home for a well deserved break. All we pray for is that we have a trauma free break and can return to “unaffected” life in January 2012.
Just some tips which may help if something (does) go wrong! Scan and mail as many relevant documents to youself (and a friend as a backup) as possible for example; Shortterm insurance contracst, motor vehicle (incl. boat/trailer/motorcycle) registration papers, driver’s licences, ID, passport, itenery, accommodation confirmations, etc. and if travelling international – Passport, visa’s, international drivers licence, flight reservations, accommodation, travel insurance, medical insurance, copies of credit cards (front and back), travellers cheques, etc. and finally a list of all your most important contact telephone numbers. If something can go wrong it may just and with these documents (preferrably in full colour) in hand, via any internet “station” internationally, your life would just be so much easier. It might also be a good idea just to have a copy of your will in similar format on hand as well – just in case – the wishes of the deseased such as cremation might help with final decision making. [NB: Just make certain you can access your mails internationally!]
Let us not forget about ensuring the safe keeping/care of your pets – get someone reliable or place them in a reputable facility for your stay and remember that your comprehensive type travel insurance does make allowance also for flight delays and the addisional cost associated with late collection of your pets.
Lastly and most importantly – making and having a video or in worse cases still photo’s, of all your assets at home would make claiming so much easier. The proof of having had that asset is not always so easy but if you could make a video of each room (open your cupboards) zooming in on cerial numbers, models and descriptions (even better) of those expensive items would make for a painless claim process. Being prepared would cut the time and cost of recovery when on your well deserved holiday dramatically ans as we know – Murphy’s Law – when you least expect it it would happen and when prepared invariably, nothing does happen. Great! That is all you actually wanted. Go and enjoy your well earned break!
