Discovery has made management changes to aid expansion of its international businesses.
EDWARD WEST
Its most recent investment abroad is in China with Ping An Health, and it has a joint venture in the UK with Prudential, encompassing private medical insurer PruHealth and PruProtect, the risk assurance specialist.
Discovery believes the changes will enhance the overseas businesses, streamline the operational infrastructure and further align its UK businesses. Its joint ventures with Prudential are headed by Shaun Matisonn, CEO of PruHealth, and Herschel Mayers, CEO of PruProtect.
Mayers will act as CEO of PruProtection, holding company for PruProtection and PruHealth. Mayers would further continue his roles as CEO of Discovery Life and Discovery Invest.
PruProtect gained traction in the UK in the past 12 months. Back-office service and operations infrastructure supporting the two UK businesses were transferred to South African operations “to unlock efficiencies of scale, enhance cost-efficiency, competitiveness and service delivery”.
Shaun Matisonn returns to SA to lead the international expansion of Discovery Vitality. He was the driving force behind the roll out of the Vitality product into UK, and will put this experience to use in other markets in which Discovery operates, such as China.
